Brainstormed operating principles

In addition to the actions brainstormed before and during the Partnership Workshop, a number of possible operating principles for the partnership were identified.  The collated list of these possible principles is listed here.  No further work has been done with these yet.

• Open, candid communication
• Respect for redefined roles
• We agree to make decisions in a timely manner.
• We will remain connected and committed to the partnership regardless of funding.
• All partners agree to be good team players and work for the good of the whole.
• None of us are as smart as all of us.
• Station directors should stop making jokes about Extension.
• Civility (respectful talk)
• Globalization cannot be ignored
• We will be guided by the needs of the people, nation and world we serve (“customer first”) rather than by our own competing interests.
• We acknowledge the contributions of all partners to the growth and development of the land-grant system.
• We acknowledge and respect the cultural differences between and among all partners:  AES/CES/CSREES, 1862’s/1890’s/1994’s, states and territories.
• We agree to include whoever is important in what we are doing.
• Authentic partners operating as a Council of Equals
• Trust will be developed through action – by each partner doing what it says it will do.
• We will show respect and trust for all partners in meetings such as multistate research projects.
• We will represent the interests of all partners when they are not at the table.
• Let those with the most passion and dedication take the lead in new initiatives.
• Look for ways to get things done, not reasons why they cannot be done.
• Forget about things of the past and press on towards the “perfect” future
• We will work from the same script (AES/CES/CSREES)
• We commit to sending and receiving information and knowledge to and from each other
