Workshop purpose

The purpose of this workshop was to increase the effectiveness of the partnership among CES, AES and CSREES.  The outcomes were:

Monday, February 12

7:00

Opening reception

  • Welcome by James Wade, Co-Chair of the Partnership Task Force
  • Overview of the history of the partnership
  • Addition by participants of events in history and actions and operating principles to improve the partnership

Tuesday, February 13

7:00 - 8:00

Continental breakfast

  • Addition by participants of events in history and actions and operating principles to improve the partnership
  • Pop quiz on background and suggestions prepared by the Task Force!

8:00 - 9:00

Opening session

  • Review and discussion of history and context of the partnership
  • Review and discussion of the implications for the partnership now and in the future

Purpose and functions of the partnership

  • Introduction to background work done by the Task Force
  • Small groups including a mix of partners
    • Review suggested purpose, principles and functions of the partnership.
    • Discuss, add to them and check for where there is and is not consensus in the small group

Noon - 1:30

1:30 - 1:45

Purpose and functions of the partnership

  • Review of collated feedback from small groups

1:45 - 4:00

Contributions, roles and constraints of each partner

  • Introduction to background work done by the Task Force
  • Small groups divided up by respective work (AES, CES, CSREES)
    • Review the suggested contributions/roles and constraints of your own group
    • Discuss, add to them and check for where there is and is not consensus in the small group
    • Do the same for the other two partner groups
  • Large group discussion

4:00 - 4:50

Actions and operating principles to improve the partnership

  • Return to original mixed groups.
  • Review of the major strengths and major issues for the partnership identified by the Task Force
  • Review of the brainstormed lists of operating principles and actions to improve the partnership, both generated by the Task Force and added by participants since the beginning of the work shop
  • At small group tables, brainstorming of additional operating principles and actions

4:50 - 5:00

Wednesday, February 14

Actions and operating principles to improve the partnership

  • Open discussion of the issues confronting the partnership
  • Review of the brainstormed lists of actions to improve the partnership
  • Prioritization with each person identifying the five actions to improve the partnership they most would like to see movement on coming out of this workshop
  • Break and collation of the individual votes
  • Review of the nine action areas that received more than 25 votes
  • Small groups to work on the top nine actions
    • Identify why this action is important and what you hope it will accomplish
    • Brainstorm the first step(s) needed to make it happen, who might take it and by when
    • The group puts their answers to the last two questions both on report form and on an overhead.
  • Large group report-out

11:30 - Noon

Closing session

  • Remarks by leaders of each of the partners
